Miranda R. McCoy, Attorney at Law
Miranda Renee McCoy has been practicing
law since 1995. Since then, she has engaged in various areas
of practice, which has made her adept at learning new skills,
dealing with numerous types of personalities, and most importantly,
able to handle multi-tasked positions under pressure. Immediately
prior to forming her solo practice, Ms. McCoy was the
primary bankruptcy attorney for the Law Firm of Hutchens,
Senter and Britton, one of the largest foreclosure and bankruptcy
law firms in the State. She performed the job of two attorneys
while the firm’s other bankruptcy attorney was on recalled status
with the U.S. Army. In her position as bankruptcy attorney,
she managed the firm’s bankruptcy department; including
being ultimately responsible for more than 1,000 active cases
each month and supervising 15 staff members.
During Ms. McCoy’s tenure with Hutchens,
Senter and Britton, the number of cases referred to the bankruptcy
department each month almost doubled, increasing from an average
of 285 per month to an average of 450 per month. Ms. McCoy
successfully oversaw an increase in staff to handle the increased
caseload. She implemented a more streamlined and efficient
motions practice which expedited results for the firm’s
clients and increased the number of favorable outcomes for
those clients. Those clients included Chase Manhattan Mortgage
Corporation, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo Home Mortgage,
Inc. Ms. McCoy frequently dealt with the processors and managers
of these national corporations, ensuring that their questions
were answered in a timely manner and that their needs were
met without delay.
Prior to her bankruptcy position, she
operated her own part-time practice from June, 2000 to November,
2001. From October, 1996 to June, 2000, Ms. McCoy served
as the in-house general counsel for a local government agency
which served the behavioral healthcare needs for four counties.
This agency employed 400 people and served more than 7,000
clients. Ms. McCoy was responsible for employment law
matters, over 200 annual contracts with vendors and healthcare
providers, and representing the agency’s concerns and
entitlements via administrative law matters with the State.
Miranda has been the co-chair of the North
Carolina Bar Association’s
Young Lawyers Division Military Task Force since 2003. During
this time she has helped Fort Bragg’s Army Community
Service’s Holiday Hearts drive by helping get donations
of gifts for Soldier’s children on the installation.
Ms. McCoy is a graduate of the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (B.S. 1991) and the Baylor University
School of Law (J.D. 1994). She is admitted to practice in all
three federal districts of North Carolina. Ms. McCoy has a
flawless malpractice and grievance record and is insured by Lawyers’ Mutual
